Running Season

Running has become increasingly popular over the last few years. Every weekend, thousands of energetic runners hit the roads of Ireland. With this increase in activity, running injuries have become progressively more common.

Prior to beginning a new exercise regime an assessment by a Physiotherapist is recommended.By doing so you will develop suitable techniques to prevent injury, which can significantly reduce your motivation and prevent further participation in your activity.

At Advanced Physio West we will consider your body type, level of fitness, pre-existing injury and biomechanics in order for an individual training plan to be put together for you.Your physiotherapist will also discuss how far, how fast, how often, what surface and what terrain.

If you are unlucky enough to have sustained a running injury, we will be here to treat the injury and get you back on the road as soon as possible.

Common running injuries include:

  • ITB syndrome
  • Shin Splints
  • Plantar Fasciitis

Contributing factors to these injuries includes:

  • Poor foot position
  • Excessive training
  • Poor running technique
  • Inappropriate footwear

If you would like more information on running injuries or to arrange an appointment with the Physiotherapist at Advanced Physio West please phone 090 6626023/ 086 3758169 or book online
